\"the<\/a>So the story has it that The Coathangers were a band before any of them knew how to play an instrument. They were not musicians with the common goal of creating a flawless album, they were four chicks in Atlanta who thought it would be fun to play house party gigs. Whether or not they knew how to make music was beside the point. Four LPs later, the group is pretty much the embodiment of fake it ’til you make it. The house shows turned into US and European tours and now recording and performing as a trio, The Coathangers are set to release their most refined album to date on March 18 via Seattle-based Suicide Squeeze Records.<\/p>\n

Now to call The Coathangers\u2019 sound refined might be a bit of a stretch. This is a group deeply in touch with their no-wave punk rock roots and while they may have learned a few things about song structure over the years, their music is still as raucous and rude as it was when they first strapped on unfamiliar guitars and penned songs with such classy titles as \u201cDon\u2019t Touch My Shit.\u201d So don\u2019t expect a pop album from The Coathangers any time soon.<\/p>\n

\"the<\/a>And while the girls have certainly found a way to translate their attitude-packed tracks to a studio setting, working with producer Ed Rawls (Deerhunter, Black Lips) and recording in Atlanta’s Living Room, they are still a must-see-live type of band. So if they\u2019re hitting your city on this spring tour, go buy them a beer.
