From Charlotte Ronson to DapperQ, New York Fashion Week is one high res. cornucopia of events, shows, and parties \u2013 all quintessential to the queer minded sartorial demondaines of this world – or just your average New Yorker.\u00a0 And Emily Hall Smith\u2019s (Hot Rabbit) Fashion Week-themed-event was one not to miss (especially because of our snazzy resident photo booth). Hundreds flocked while DJ Sabi; DJ Just Steph (AquaGirl Miami) mixed ever – changing fluxes of house, hip-hop, and top 40.\u00a0 Companies like Goorin Bros. and BEX nyc gave away prizes while Style Prerogative, an image-consulting firm, came out to promote their services.<\/p>\n

Along with my wonderful photographer Marie Tomanova, I had the opportunity to chat with some fashionable folks, innovative labels and brands as well as Hot Rabbit Party Promoter Emily Hall Smith to give you a small sampling of the best of the best.<\/p>\n

So what was your vision for this event?<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/b>“I\u2019m always looking to use Hot Rabbit as a platform to uplift the artists in our community, whether they are DJs, dancers, performers, musicians, visual artists, designers, etc. \u00a0There is such a wealth and diversity of talent in the queer community of NYC and whenever there’s a way to showcase that talent in a manner that doesn’t take away from the high-energy party atmosphere it always adds an extra special element to the events. \u00a0Nightlife after all is a celebration of who we are and who we are striving to become together as a community, and Hot Rabbit’s number one goals have always been innovation and diversity.<\/p>\n

Everyone has a different perspective on what “fashionable” means so part of the excitement of this event was showcasing how the diversity of different styles and gender identities in our community bring us to interpret the idea of great fashion.<\/p>\n

I was fortunate to work with Posture Magazine on this event because their goals are very aligned with mine in terms of spotlighting queer art in all its forms. \u00a0It was also great to have AzMarie Livingston back at Hot Rabbit, who is a musician and anti-bullying activist in addition to being a model. \u00a0And we were lucky to have a bunch of queer and queer-positive designers and style consultants who came to show off their work – from accessories to custom suits to bralettes and hats.”<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your involvement here?<\/b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

First off, I\u2019d like to say that as a person of fashion week, I\u2019m happy to be involved. As a representing such a great company like Goorin Bros. We are raffling away our core hat, which is any hat up to $100.<\/p>\n

What are you wearing?<\/b><\/p>\n

Sporting The Butcher, it’s part of our 1950’s collection.<\/p>\n

How has your style changed since working at Goorin Bros.?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

I am definitely more of a casual person. My personal style is more casual, like baseball caps and flat brimmed fedoras. Since working at Goorin Bros. I\u2019ve become more aware of the dapper style and haberdashery as a whole. I strive to make customers feel comfortable and all the more inclined to the idea of wearing hats everyday. At Goorin I love and believe in my employees, each with their own unique style.<\/p>\n

Style Prerogative<\/a>, an image consulting company.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s image consulting?<\/b><\/p>\n

Image consulting can be defined as personal styling for the everyday woman, man and individual.\u00a0 This entails a bit of personal styling, image consulting, and an assessment of color analysis as well as image strategy. We want individuals to look modern and feel comfortable in their own skin.<\/p>\n

Well, as an avid collector of graphic tees, I often found the selection in the girls section too hetero and feminine, I wanted to do more street wear cuts that are not as tight fitting and incorporate different sleeve detail.<\/p>\n

So how do you go about creating your shirts? <\/b><\/p>\n

Well we mostly get them from American Apparel, Bella T-shirts<\/a> and my girlfriend Lena designs the print.<\/p>\n

What are you wearing on this lovely evening? <\/b><\/p>\n

My name is Marlee Weinberg and I\u2019m modeling for BEX nyc<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>(known for their work on American Horror Story). I am wearing one of their black lace bralettes. My high-waisted pants are from a vintage store in Florida and my earrings were borrowed from a friend who got them from Forever 21<\/a>.<\/p>\n

My inspiration came from an amalgamation of my own style which is ‘urban sophisticated’ and BEX nyc’s style which is intimate and sexy. Together they made an outfit that screamed “Let’s drink and old fashioned and go dancing!”<\/p>\n

\nThe belt is Harley Davidson Vintage ca. 1960. My dress I bought from Urban Renewal<\/a>. The necklace I made myself and my hair is ombr\u00e9 red.<\/p>\n

And you said your were a wardrobe stylist? <\/b>
\nYes! I\u2019ve worked on the last 3 Spike Lee films. He has been a tremendous inspiration challenging me to look at at characterization from a completely different vantage point.<\/p>\n
