New recruits to JD Samson\u2019s Atlas Chair Records<\/a>, bottoms<\/a> are a trio out of Bushwick making music described as \u201cgender-problematizing goth dance.” Consisting of \u201ctwo shitty drag queens, a 303, and a drummer,\u201d the group just released their first single \u201cMy Body\u201d on Stereogum<\/a>, who described the track as something like a \u201chyper-sexualized Factory Floor fronted by a howling hyena-pixie.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group is in fact not fronted by a hyena-pixie, but rather by performance artist Jake Dibeler<\/a>, whose previous work has focused on topics such as HIV and gay suicide. Formerly of the band teeth<\/a>, Michael Prommasit and Simon Leahy (cofounder of Bushwig Festival<\/a>) round out the group who met at art collective space Secret Project Robot.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll have to wait ’til January 2015 for their debut EP, but the band will be performing several shows in Brooklyn over the next few months, and you can stream \u201cMy Body\u201d for a teaser below. The track wouldn\u2019t be out of place on the soundtrack for Party Monster<\/em>, combining elements of house and minimalist techno with a splash of punk fury. The result is a blend of Club Kid party ethos with roots in the pissed-off-yet-playful attitude reminiscent of label-head Samson\u2019s own work. The content and concept behind the lyrics seem to make bottoms a perfect fit for the new label Samson is putting together.
