Juan Mu\u00f1oz\u00a0(June 17, 1953 –\u00a0August 28, 2001) was a Spanish sculptor who has exhibited internationally\u00a0(including the Guggenheim Museum\u00a0in New York, Tate Modern in London, and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C.). He is known for being a self proclaimed “story teller” and for breaking the sculptural traditions at the time by creating immersive installations that contain narratives and relationships between the subject, the viewer, and the interior.\u00a0He worked primarily in papier-mach\u00e9, bronze, and resin.<\/p>\n

It was later in his career when he began to incorporate architecture into his exhibitions by transforming the space into a labyrinth environment such as in\u00a0Double Bind<\/i>\u00a0at the Tate Modern\u2019s Turbine Hall. Further, he was very interested in auditory works\u00a0and collaborated with Gavin Bryars in\u00a0A Man in a Room, Gambling<\/i>, and with Alberto Iglesias in\u00a0Building for Music<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Three key works by Mu\u00f1oz will be featured at the Marian Goodman Gallery: the sculptural installations\u00a0<\/span>Thirteen Laughing at Each Other<\/i>, 2001,\u00a0<\/span>Many Times<\/i>, 1999 and a\u00a0<\/span>Figure Hanging from One Foot<\/i>, 2001. The exhibition will be on view from December 9, 2014 until January 31, 2015.
