The inevitable frenzy of fashion week was in full in swing at last Friday\u2019s Chromat<\/a> show held at Milk Studios in Chelsea.\u00a0From WeTheUrban\u2019s<\/a> Executive Editorial Director Jillian Mercado<\/a> to Man Repeller’s <\/a>Leandra Medine<\/a>, the show boasted a widely-coveted attendance list.<\/p>\n

The show professed Becca McCharen\u2019s<\/a> iconic aesthetic: \u201ceverything you\u2019ve posted online, social media, and texts, are collected into a digital file that reflects your personality. Eventually scientists are thinking that personality will reflect your consciousness.\u00a0So if your mom or boyfriend dies, you can still text with them and call them.\u201d – style.com<\/em><\/p>\n

Cerebral and severe, the collection was a captivating symposium of the various silhouettes, moods, and styles very much unique to Chromat and its celebration of the body.\u00a0One of McCharen\u2019s greatest strengths in this collection was her model casting. Progressive and political yet polished, the designer chose a beautiful compendium of body types and ethnicities. Julianna Huxtable was one of the many statuesque, dauntless and downright elegant femmebots that tore up the runway infusing the clothes, the show, and the audience with the Chromat ethos:\u00a0\u201csuper-human women of the future ready to take over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

It felt more like a future retrospective than the cohesive presentation from a young, budding designer who\u2019s been listed in Forbes as one of the 30 Under 30. I will mention that the Ghostbuster-green laser light nipples at the beginning of the show seemed like a kitschy cyber goth spectacle underscoring some of the other finite nuances.<\/p>\n
