Celebrate Pride: A List of Pride Drag Events!

Written by Ballerina Bizet

It is officially June, you know what that means! Well…yes the Summer Equinox but that’s not what I was hinting at.  Besides, the weather seems to be content on doing whatever it wants so who cares! No, it’s June, which means Pride Month! Here are a couple of suggestions on how to spend the next few weeks for Pride, starting tonight! (Note* I apologize that I only have Manhattan and Brooklyn, I will try to be better about getting events for the other boroughs).

If you are in Brooklyn…

Hot Mess, June 19th: Whiskey Wednesdays presents HOT MESS! Pride Edition tonight at Grand Victory. An outrageous night filled with killer tunes, messy queens, fierce dancing, cheap booze, and everything in between. Featuring a slew of kickass performers including members of Backspace, this is a show for queens, club kids, metal heads, party freaks, and dancing fools. They are ready to let that rainbow flag fly! No cover, show starts at 11pm. Grand Victory is located at 245 Grand Street in Williamsburg.

Scarlet Fever: Pride Edition, June 21st: Gurl, you look flushed. Have you come down with SCARLET FEVER? Sick drag shows and hot beats to make you sweat. Midnight is when your temperature breaks hunty.  Scarlet Envy will unfortunately not be here this Friday– she will be out in Mexico getting some free implants (too good to pass up!) so Elle Emenope will be leading the Pride festivities alongside some special guest performers! Friday night at This n’ That, located at 108 6th Street between Berry and Wythe. No cover, shows start at midnight.

Boom Saturdays, Pride Party!, June 29th: Come spend your night the right way with Boom Saturdays Pride Party! at This n’ That. Starring Elizabeth James and Hamm Samwich giving you a drag show like no other, with DJs Jonathan Love and BPro Elektro serving you an array of amazing beats that are guaranteed to keep you moving and dancing. No cover, show starts at midnight. This n’ That is located at 108 N. 6th Street in Williamsburg.

Werk & Serve Pride After Party!, June 30th: After you have hit up the Pride Parade and grabbed a bite (and a cocktail), come on over to Werk & Serve’s Pride After Party for a drag show and dance party all rolled into one! Hosts Hamm Samwich, Stevie Zar, and Elizabeth James will deliver a drag show that will have you gagging for more along with their special guest performer Mr(s). Williamsburg winner Macy Rodman! DJs BPro Elektro and Jonathan Love will be spinning beats that’ll have you dancing all night long while Bartender Oliver Rockaway mixes up an array of tantalizing cocktails (I hear he makes an excellent martini!). No cover, shows are at 12:30am and 1:30am.  Sugarland Nightclub is located on 221 N. 9th Street in Williamsburg.

If you are in Manhattan…

Sinful Cabaret: 7 Queens, 1 Night of Mayhem, June 26th: Start your Wednesday Gay Pride right with a drag show unlike anything you have ever seen. 7 Queens, 7 Deadly Sins right in the heart of Times Square. Executive Producer /Director Erin Alisa Mayhugh and Producer/Choreographer Boy B Hitha are proud to bring you the grand opening of Sinful Cabaret starring Pusse Couture, Elizabeth James, Krystal Something-Something, Viki Villianess, CoCo De’Ball, Jada Valenciaga, and Dj Collins Skyla Versai. Limited seating available, buy your tickets at TimesScareNYC.com/SinfulCabaret. Show starts at 8pm at Times Scare, located at 669 8th Avenue.

It Takes a Broad: Special Pride Party, June 27th: Hells Kitchen’s newest performer Elizabeth James has a show perfectly created to make you feel the spirit of Pride week! Every Thursday “It Takes A Broad” delves into the minds and hearts of every glittery gay! With special guest performers, drink specials and classic pop culture moments, she drags back up the women through history that made you want to splash a drink in a mans face, and dream of the time you had a chance to slap that scoundrel and say “snap out of it”. It Takes A Broad is a rowdy romp! Shows start at 11pm, no cover, with weekly drink specials courtesy of bartender Kelly Gorman and DJs Jonathan Love and Bpro Elektro spinning the night away with music fully embodying the Pride spirit! Vlada Lounge is located at 331 West 51st Street in Manhattan.

2013 Manhattan Pride Parade & PrideFest, June 30th: And what Pride celebration would be complete without the annual Manhattan Pride March on June 30th. The March will kick off at 12pm with this year’s Grand Marshals Edie Windsor, Harry Belafonte, and Earl Fowlkes leading the parade down 5th Avenue to its final destination at Greenwich Street and Christopher Street. The March will be hosting over 300 marching groups representing everything from non-profits and community organizations to corporate sponsors and activists. Then afterwards head on over to PrideFest on Hudson Street and 14th Street for some music, a few bites, and some great Pride accouterments! The March begins at noon and PrideFest will be open from 11am until 6pm. For more information visit NYCPride.org/events
