In a short documentary released this summer by The Sound Media, Chicago-based Drag Queen Saya Naomi takes on the role of Drag Mother for the film’s interviewer, Michael Alexander. Saya helps Michael create a new identity and together they go out into the streets to get first hand experience of how people react and treat individuals who express themselves in drag. Saya discusses her experience with racial stereotyping as a POC Drag Queen, her personal relationship to gender and identity, and the constant willpower it takes to mentally fight objectification.
