A Review of A Détacher NYFW 2014

Privy to her tendencies for creating an unconventional, relaxed femininity, one that is intellectualized yet tangible, Mona Kowalska’s latest collection takes its inspiration from the sports injuries of a heroic athlete. A triumphant orchestral soundtrack guides the models down the runway in their assertive gait and understated composure.

Sombre hues of bordeaux, navy, graphite, and pitch black complement zippy plaids and a blaring crosshatch print  juxtaposed against lightening bolts resembling the Gatorade logo. A Détacher fans rejoice because Kowalska’s panache for redefining casual luxe shines through in her sensual layering of cozy cashmere atop sheer silk tanks and sculptural wool coats.

Kowalska’s ever-present theme of the fallen sports hero is both cheeky yet provocative. What at first glance seems like a mulberry, knife-pleated jersey skirt is actually paneled in the back. Darker themes of the sports industry are played upon with one of her lush cashmere sleeveless grey maxi dresses that simply reads “Drugmule.”

Below are some memorable looks from the collection through the eyes of Posture’s talented photographer Marie Tomanova.
