Troy Michie was a recent visual arts winner of the 2013-2014 Queer Art Mentorship program and therefore had the opportunity to work with the artist Geoff Chadsey. Michie obtained his MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2011 and has been actively exhibiting his work since 2007.
His stunning collages and sculptures deconstruct the human body and seemingly call into question the notion of the “erotic gaze.” His body of work explores themes such as race, gender, and how a man of color is portrayed in pornography. The subjects are consistently distorted, yet retain a pleasant balance.
