Bushwig is a special annual festival that includes drag performances, art installations, dance parties, music, and fashion. It places an emphasis “on being a celebration of anyone for everyone” and functions as a platform for more than 200 international artists to perform alongside some of the most well-known drag performance artists.
Bushwig just celebrated its sixth year anniversary with a return to Knockdown Center in Brooklyn on the weekend of September 23rd and 24th. What began as a grassroots Bushwick project created by Brooklyn-based artists Horrorchata and Babes Trust, has now become an internationally recognized event that brings some of the biggest names in the drag community. This year, fan favorites such as Alyssa Edwards, Thorgy Thor, and Dida Ritz from Rupaul’s drag race made an appearance. Headlining the music side of the weekend included Chicago-based audacious rapper Cupcakke, Italian-based DJ Fabrizio Mammarella, and The Juan Maclean from DFA records.
