Style Profile: Aspiring Model and Public Figure Corin Christian

In this new style profile series, we feature inspiring creatives with amazing style. We’re debuting this series with Corin Christian, an 18 year old from Charlotte, North Carolina who moved to New York City to fulfill his dreams of modeling. Although he describes himself as a freelance model, he finds himself more on the “Public Figure side of the fashion industry because why limit yourself to one occupation/hobby?”

“I mainly describe my style as an edgy yet calm type of vibe. I try to keep myself as natural as possible because of the clients I want to work with in the industry, but I add a sprinkle of grunge and edginess.”

How has the journey into building a modeling career been for you?

My journey has been very rough and tough. I have couch surfed for the past three months and realized the struggles and hustles necessary to reach any long term goals. I have came to understand that in the fashion industry it’s not really about how many followers you have on social media or who you’re doing promotions for — in this industry it’s all about who you know and how you can set yourself apart from the rest.  The world is drastically changing as we speak, masculinity and feminism is becoming more appealing to the fashion culture and overpowering the gender norms we’re all so used to.

How would you describe your style?

I mainly describe my style as an edgy yet calm type of vibe. I try to keep myself as natural as possible because of the clients I want to work with in the industry, but I add a sprinkle of grunge and edginess.

What was the evolution like for you to find your style? Or is it ever-changing?

My style is ever-changing only because you can tend to get washed up in the fashion industry if you’re stuck in one set style. Fast fashion was invented for us to pick up on the trend and try to expand it as much as we can in the period of time that it’s relevant in the world. I found my style based off my facial features only because I can come off as a very editorial kid. Crazy works for me.

Are you looking to any contemporary fashion designers or models for inspiration?

The main person I’ve looked for inspiration from was Alexander Wang. He gives off the vibe of multi-dimensional and futuristic. His collections are mostly based upon neutral colors that also appeal to my wardrobe of primarily black, grey, and white. I don’t really take much inspiration from models only because everyone has a different thing about them that stands out. Everyone is their own version of a model.

What are some of your favorite places to shop?

My favorite place to shop is GOOOOODWILL. EVERYTHING in my closet has either been thrifted or made by me. I normally try not to shop online only because everyone’s sizing is alot different and most clothes can’t fit this snatched waist! You will never see something you buy at a thrift store or on any other person unless it’s a name brand.

Can you give some advice for someone looking to find their style?

In my opinion before you can find your style, you have to find yourself as a person. Style should automatically come from what you like as far as colors and creativity. It also can sometimes be generated from what you see that is working for the current generation in fashion.
