Here at Posture, we love the painters of the BLONDE collective, Kelsey Shwetz, Ehren Clodfelter and Beata Chrzanowska. Their current exhibit is on view at Gallery SENSEI, and is titled “Relaxing the Virgin.” It opened on April 25th and runs through May 15th.
I’ve written about past shows this collective has put on. I’ve also interviewed the three artists extensively. Regular readers know that part of what I appreciate about this collective and their work together is the three completely different styles these painters use to explore themes of gender and sexuality.
Kelsey Shwetz is the most traditional painter of the three. Her work is the most representational. Using classical forms to reference the history of art, Shwetz turns the traditional narrative on it’s head by playing with gender roles.
Ehren Clodfelter is on the opposite end of the painting spectrum. He uses abstracted naturalistic forms to examine gender ambiguity and human form.
Beata Chrzanowska is the artist that unites the former two painter’s styles. Her aesthetic is a mix of abstraction and representation, blending the two seamlessly to create dynamic, colorful compositions.
