A couple weeks ago, we mentioned Raleigh trash pop band Ghostt Bllonde in our Hopscotch Festival recap after their performance at the Let Feedback Ring day party, and today, we’re more than pleased to debut the full stream of their new EP Demos and Discord. The four song collection will be released on cassette October 7 via Negative Fun Records.
A compilation of re-recorded demos originally written in the high school bedroom of singer/guitarist Marc Kuzio, the EP is a perfect late summer soundtrack, full of fuzzy guitars and crooning surf pop melodies that would be best played from a boombox sitting poolside next to a case of used-to-be-much-colder PBR.
Kuzio explains that these songs, while never before properly released, were actually a launching point for the band. “When I played them for Billy, Chris, and Ryan for the first time, they jumped immediately into a groove and these bedroomy croon songs took on a whole new vibe that would start to shape a direction of ‘sound’ we wanted. Working on these taught us how to connect and flow with one another and eventually segued into the trashy jangle pop of our first album (TrashPop//DoomWop) last year.”
Said to be influenced by awful breakups, shitty friends, abusive relationships, good times, and blackouts, it makes perfect sense that their reputation began with house parties at their former home/venue, the Mattress Fort. Only a year since they became a band, and with a sound that seems to continue evolving from garage beginnings to the slightly more polished EP we’re premiering today, we recommend keeping your eye on Ghostt Bllonde.
