Last week was quite eventful in the art world of New York City and thus the Posture team dove in full force. We attended Volta, Scope, The Armory, ADAA, Independent, and the Whitney Houston Biennial to bring you the best of the best (at least we think so!) through highlighting our favorite artists from each fair.
Here are our top picks from The Armory with more features yet to come.
The Armory, Pier 94 (contemporary)
Number One: The Space Station, Beijing
Armory Focus is the curated section of the Armory Show which highlights a specific geographic region. For this year The Armory chose China and appointed Philip Tinari, Director of The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing to curate selections from China’s contemporary galleries.
Number Two: Galleri Brandstrup Oslo (booth 516)
As a leading art gallery in Norway, the carefully thought out collection of works shared the themes of existentialism, illusion, and the grotesque.
Number three: Andréhn-Schiptjenko (booth 707)
This gallery hosts emerging and mid-career artists from all over the globe. Their booth featured artists Brad Kahlhamer, Nandipha Mntambo, and Cajsa von Zeipel to deliver a unique juxtaposition of works that leave the viewer to grapple with dichotomies, study gender identity, and question traditional social hierarchies.
Number Four: Tang Contemporary, Beijing, Art Focus: China (booth 631)
