Last week, we talked about Munich synth pop group Claire, whom I stumbled upon at CMJ last fall. Today, I’ll continue riding that wave with another artist who performed at the very same party.

The Preatures are an Australian rock band with an extremely hot lead singer. There. I said it. Because I know we’re all thinking it. She’s also a fantastic performer. And the band is good, too. Which all makes a pretty spot on combination for a solid rock and roll act.

Among the group’s influences, they list Talking Heads, Mr. Cave, and Prince (“his royal purpleness”). The five-piece out of Sydney have been around since 2011 but it was their 2013 single “Is This How You Feel?” off their sophomore EP of the same name that quickly caught the attention of the indie music world stateside, with Pitchfork drawing comparison to contemporaries Haim and likening singer Isabella Manfridi’s voice to the one and only Leslie Fiest. I also hear bits of Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis in the snappy song structure and the smoky, sultry vocals.

The group is prepping the release of their first full-length this year, so keep your ears peeled for more anthemic sing-along jams from The Preatures. In the meantime, check out videos for “Is This How You Feel?” and “Manic Baby” below. You can get your copy of the EP containing both of those tracks here. And if you want to dig a little deeper, their debut Shaking Hands EP is available here.
