Seaside Sequins: A Look at The 32nd Annual Mermaid Parade

Author| Christiane Nickel

The 32nd Annual Mermaid Parade counts as a Pride Month Must because it has all the elements that, if this were 2004, would be on my MySpace Top 5: queer culture, kitsch, decadence, sequins, and the beach. Performance is a prerogative as are the swarms of people carousing and cruising in a sequined dishabille that memorializes mermaids.

I personally have an unabashed love for copious amounts of ornamentation, props, and anything gilded with a fanatical pastiche of accessories. This may be a crime to some but creed into book.
Clad in leopard print stretch lace donning my brightest impermeable lip stain, me and a beloved friend of mine scoured through the parade for some memorable looks. Below you’ll find a little montage in this latest Pinterest post.
