Fun fact: since 1990, the 7th on Sale initiative put forth by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and VOGUE has raised millions of dollars for HIV and AIDS.
Proceeds from the sale of designer and celebrity-owned merchandise go to HIV/AIDS charities. This enormous shopping opportunity takes form as a large online auction and then as an in-person shopping event in Manhattan. Some participating designers have included Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Caroline Herrera and Phillip Lim.
In honor of #TBT we decided to take a fond look back on this event by highlighting the temporary Michael Kors booth for the first ‘Seventh on Sale’ in 1990 designed by Glenn Gissler.
The large photo, an ‘abstracted’ Christy Turlington, was part of their advertising campaign.
Michael’s concept for the opening of the sale was that everything in the space be shades of silver, grey, white and black.
