The band Miniature Tigers releases new single “Oblivious” from upcoming album

It doesn’t always have to be a happy song to make you feel good.

Brooklyn band Miniature Tigers prove this point with the recent release of “Oblivious,” the new single from their upcoming fourth studio album, Cruel Runnings. Singer Charlie Brand opens the upbeat synth pop track with “Lately I’ve been feeling like a birthday candle; one look in the mirror and I know the party’s over,” and goes on to lament his oblivious ways that leave him lost in his head and still lacking that big house with a swimming pool (did I mention the lead single from the record is titled “Swimming Pool Blues”?). It’s a nice breezy, summery track that’s pretty easy to get lost in, just like Brand’s daydreaming.

You can sense this dichotomy also in the way Brand describes the inspiration behind the record. He wanted to create something that was real and relatable – something that recounts the way a relationship really feels, “Not necessarily something that was good and got bad, but the ups and downs of it.”

Cruel Runnings was produced by Chris Zane, who has also done work for Passion Pit, who are pretty much champions of creating super happy-sounding, danceable songs with lyrics that are exactly the opposite of anything uplifting. A good fit, no?

Mark this one down for a summertime favorite; it’s out June 17 on YEBO Music.
