Brighton-based producer Max Wheeler and vocalist/songwriter Victoria Port make up Anushka, an electronic pop duo that describes their own sound as “vocal bass music from the future.” Having released their debut Yes Guess EP on Brownswood Recordings in the spring of 2013, Anushka recently followed up with new single “Never Can Decide”. The original cut debuted late last fall, with the EP including remixes from GoldFFinch and Ivy Lab dropping officially on January 13, 2014.
The soulful and sweet and sometimes jazzy swooning of Port deliver10ed atop the electro-house inspired beats of Wheeler call to mind contemporaries such as AlunaGeorge, D/R/U/G/S and maybe a cross between Laura Mvula and Disclosure. It’s trance music your R&B loving aunt might like. It’s bass music dripping with enough butter to make it slide down easy for fans and strangers of the genre alike. I’m quickly becoming a fan of these vocalist/producer duos, and see a bright future for Anushka in the electronic pop realm.
